| NSCAA, Fox Expand College Coverage |
Women's games added to live broadcast package Building on its mission to bring U.S. soccer fans the most in-depth coverage of the world’s game on television, Fox Soccer Channel has extended its agreement with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) to air a minimum of eight women’s and eight men’s intercollegiate soccer matches yearly through 2008.
As in 2005, the inaugural season of the agreement, Fox Soccer Channel’s exclusive matches will showcase the best in NCAA Division I soccer, this time including women’s teams.
“Fox Soccer Channel is proud to extend its partnership with the NSCAA as the exclusive carrier of the best in men’s and women’s college soccer,” said David Sternberg, executive vice president and general manager of Fox Soccer Channel. “Our College Match of the Week, which will now include eight women’s matches, is the perfect complement to Fox Soccer Channel’s year-round coverage of top international and domestic soccer competitions.”
Beginning in September 2006, the FSC College Match of the Week will include 12 live men’s matches on Thursdays and Fridays and eight live women’s matches on Wednesdays, all kicking off at 8 p.m. ET. A complete broadcast schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
“The NSCAA is very excited to extend our agreement with Fox Soccer Channel for the next three years as we work together to expand the availability of top-quality college soccer on live national television,” said NSCAA President Louise Waxler. “As an organization of coaches at every level of the game, we are committed to growing the sport and this is an important piece of that effort. That this extension also includes the women’s games is another important step in this process.”
Through an agreement with the NSCAA last year, Fox Soccer Channel negotiated a selection of Division I matches, exclusive to the channel. Last season’s inaugural college soccer slate on Fox Soccer Channel featured eight of the top 10 teams from the 2005 NSCAA/adidas preseason rankings: Indiana (No. 1), eventual national champion Maryland (No. 2), Duke (No. 3), St. John’s (No. 5), Virginia (No. 6), Southern Methodist (No. 7), UCLA (No. 9) and Wake Forest (No. 10).
