The University of Maryland and the University of Portland claimed the top spots in the 2006 NSCAA/adidas pre-season rankings for Division I play as reigning national champions claimed all six top spots in NCAA polls.
Maryland took the top position in the men's Division I poll over Connecticut, while national runner-up New Mexico slipped to third. Portland earned the top spot on the women's side but face pressure from national runner-up UCLA.
In Division II, defending men's champion Fort Lewis is the top team in the pre-season ranking, while national runner-up Franklin Pierce is close behind in second. Nebraska-Omaha is perched on top on the women's side after earning the 2005 title with a 20-2-0 record. Messiah College, who earned the double last season in NCAA Division III by capturing the men's and women's national titles, is the top selection in both Division III polls that were nearly identical to the top 10 from the final 2005 rankings.
