Campbell, Cardenas National Players of the Week for Nov. 1
Amber Campell (East Carolina/Frederick, Md.) and Nick Cardenas (San Diego State/Thornton, Colo.) have been named the NSCAA National Players of the Week for Nov. 1.

Campbell held UTEP and Colorado College scoreless during 169 minutes of play during the weekend, helping ECU claim two wins and boost its seeding going into the Conference USA tournament. Cardenas had two goals to help the Aztecs to a pair of wins. His goal in a 1-0 victory over Stanford came less nine minutes after he returned to play after an injury kept him sidelined most of the game.

Each week this season, a male and female player has been selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players have been announced each Wednesday afternoon through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They also have been recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches. The schedule concludes this week with a traditional Ivy League rivalry as Yale (6-9-1) travels to Brown (10-3-3).

Amber Campbell, GK, So., East Carolina University, Frederick, Md.
Campbell did not allow a goal during 169 minutes in front of the net before giving way to the back-up keeper for the final 11 minutes against Colorado College Sunday in a 2-1 victory against the Tigers. On Friday, she tied the single-season school record with her seventh shutout with a 2-0 victory against UTEP. Colorado College and UTEP are ranked 10th in the Central Region.

Nick Cardenas, D, Fr., San Diego State, Thornton, Colo.
Cardenas scored two goals in two games over the weekend as SDSU defeated No. 6 Cal 3-1 and Stanford. He had the game-winning tally against Stanford in the 88th minute to give SDSU the 1-0 win. After colliding with a teammate inside Stanford’s box in the 26th minute and suffering a head laceration, he returned to the game with his head bandaged at 78:43. Less than nine minutes later, he headed in a shot off a corner kick for the game-winning goal. On Friday, Cardenas got SDSU’s first goal with his head off a cross from the left side, outjumping Cal goalkeeper Justin Myers to knock the ball in the net. The Aztecs are 5-0 when Cardenas scores a goal this season and all five of his goals have been headers.
