| Shipley, Warshaw Named High School Scholar-Athletes of the Year |
Rachel Shipley (Plano, Texas) and Bobby Warshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) have been named the NSCAA/adidas High School Scholar-Athletes of the Year for 2006.
To earn the honor, they first were selected to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas High School Scholar All-America Team. A committee then reviewed their qualifications, including on-field performance, academic achievement and contributions to the community, before determining the Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
Both have been invited to take part in the annual NSCAA/adidas All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, as part of the 2007 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
2006 NSCAA/adidas High School Scholar-Athletes of the Year
Rachel Shipley, Midfielder, Sr. Plano West Senior High School, Plano, Texas Rachel Shipley becomes the seventh NSCAA/adidas Girls High School Scholar Athlete of the Year. The senior midfielder from Plano West High School in Plano, Texas, has compiled a 4.09 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society. A varsity starter all four years, she had 25 goals and 27 assists in 66 games in the first three years of her high school career. An all-district first-team selection each of her first three years, she plays club soccer with the Dallas Texans ‘89. A five-year captain for the Texans, she helped the side to a third-place finish in the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships. She will attend Texas A&M University in the fall.
Bobby Warshaw, Midfielder, Sr. Mechanicsburg High School, Mechanicsburg, Pa. Bobby Warshaw is the seventh player to be named the NSCAA/adidas Boys High School Scholar Athlete of the Year. A senior midfielder from Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa., Warshaw also has been named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas Boys Youth and Boys High School All-America teams. The first player to earn back-to-back Mid-Penn Conference Player of the Year honors, this season he compiled 54 points on 24 goals and six assists. He led Mechanicsburg to its first Mid-Penn Keystone Division title and a school-record 20 wins. Warshaw plays club soccer for FC Delco, where he earned Pennsylvania State Player of the Year honors. He will attend Stanford University next fall, where he plans to study political science.
