| McAdam, Austin Named NSCAA National Players of the Week for Oct. 17 |
Lauren McAdam (Miami/Simsbury, Conn.) and Chris Austin (Michigan State/Livonia, Mich.) have earned NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for Oct. 17.
McAdam posted a pair of shutouts as the Hurricanes won two conference games, including an upset of No. 7 Boston College. Austin also posted two clean sheets last week, both against ranked teams – No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 21 Michigan.
Each week, a male and female player is selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players are announced each Wednesday afternoon until Nov. 1 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They also are recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches.
This week will feature a women’s intrastate rivalry on Thursday, Oct. 18, as Virginia Tech travels to Charlottesville, Va., to face No. 4 Virginia at 8 p.m. ET. Friday, Oct. 19, offers a Top 20 clash as No. 20 West Virginia hosts No. 1 Connecticut in a Big East battle at 8 p.m. ET.
Lauren McAdam GK, Sr., Miami, Simsbury, Conn. McAdam was solid in the net for the Hurricanes against No. 7 Boston College and Maryland. The senior from Simsbury, Conn., made six stops on 13 shots and did not give up a goal as Miami handed Boston College its first ACC loss of the season in a 1-0 win last Thursday. McAdam later earned her second-straight shutout and fourth of the season as the Hurricanes defeated Maryland 1-0 on Sunday. She had five saves on eight shots in that contest. For the week, McAdam totaled 11 saves on 21 shots and no goals allowed.
Chris Austin GK, Sr., Michigan State, Livonia, Mich. Michigan State’s Austin had two stellar performances last week shutting out No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 21 Michigan. Austin racked up 10 total saves with seven of them in the Michigan game. The senior goalkeeper now touts a 0.55 GAA and has a save percentage of .877 for the season.
