| Crutchfield, Guarda Named National Players of the Week for Oct. 31 |
Natalie Crutchfield (Boston College/Acton, Mass.) and Bruno Guarda (SMU/Piracicaba, Brazil) have earned NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for Oct. 31.
Crutchfield made full use of her first starting assignment for BC, scoring the lone goal in a victory over No. 3 Virginia, while Guarda notched two game-winners as SMU claimed conference victories over regionally-ranked foes.
Each week, a male and female player is selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players are announced each Wednesday afternoon through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They also are recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches.
This week features a Patriot League rivalry when Lehigh travels to Bucknell for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff on Friday, Nov. 2. The schedule concludes next week when Wake Forest hosts Virginia in an ACC showdown on Nov. 9, also at 8 p.m. ET.
Natalie Crutchfield F, Fr., Boston College, Acton, Mass. Crutchfield made her first start of the season for the 14th-ranked Boston College Eagles worthwhile as she tallied the lone goal in a thrilling 1-0 win over No. 3 Virginia on Sunday. With three minutes left in the second half, the forward collected the ball in the box on a pass from teammate Gina DiMartino and sent the ball to the far post past a diving Cavalier goalkeeper for the upset victory. The goal was the second of the season for Crutchfield.
Bruno Guarda MF, Jr., SMU, Piracicaba, Brazil Guarda scored two game-winning goals against regionally-ranked conference foes: a 2-1 victory at South Carolina (in a game televised live on Fox Soccer Channel) and 1-0 win over Memphis. The Mustangs have now won seven straight games and 10 matches without a loss. Guarda has a team-high 20 points on seven goals (tied for the team lead with Richard Oliva) and six assists (tied with Dane Saintus for the team lead).
