| Two Former Winners Joined by Two Newcomers in 2007 NSCAA Writing Contest |
A pair of former winners were joined by two new faces with the announcement of the winners of the 2007 NSCAA Writing Contest. David Woods of the Indianapolis Star and Rick Burns, writing in the NCAA News, claimed repeat honors while Todd Murray of the Dominion Post in Morgantown, W.Va., and Charles Cuttone, writing for PhillySoccerNews.com, earned first-time awards.
Woods, a winner in 1999, took the Non-Deadline/Feature category with his article “The’ve Come a Long Way,” which documents how three brothers from Brazil who once were abandoned now thrive in Indianapolis and contribute to their high school soccer team. Burns won his third award, the first since 2004, with his entry in the Column category, “Feed the Humane Wolf.”
Murray claims his first award in the Deadline/Game Story category for his “Dream Come True,” coverage of the West Virginia women’s team’s triumph in the Big East tournament. Cuttone took honors in the College division with his profile of Villanova goalkeeper Jillian Loyden titled “The Best Keeper You’ve Never Heard Of.”
