Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Award
The Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education Award is presented in memory of the Notre Dame coach who was serving as NSCAA’s Vice President of Education when he passed away in January 2000. It is presented to a member of the NSCAA Academy staff in recognition of positive contributions to the game of soccer and excellence in coaching education.
2013 Winner - Laura Kerrigan
Laura Kerrigan currently serves as the head coach for the girls' soccer team, helps with the boys' team, and is a full-time social studies teacher at Cary High School (N.C.). In addition to her duties at Cary, she is a 13-year member of the NSCAA Academy Staff and the State Director for North Carolina. Prior to her current position, Kerrigan spent 11 seasons as the head women’s coach at her alma mater, North Carolina State University. She was also an assistant coach at American University (three years), Colorado College (one year), and the College of William and Mary (three years).
As a student athlete, Kerrigan was an All-American player and a 4.0 GPA-caliber student, from 1985-88. In her freshman and sophomore seasons, she led the Wolfpack in shots on goal, goals scored and total points. She finished her collegiate playing career as the program’s all-time leader in shots (228), goals scored (53) and total points (135).
