NSCAA-BSCC 2011 Post-Convention Recap
The NSCAA Annual Convention which was held in Baltimore, Md., was one of the best ever! Celebrating the best clinicians and lecturers our country has to offer. This was a welcome change, but not a permanent one. This was a delight for our resident coaches and former National players who made an historical mark in their total performances throughout the five days of the convention. The NSCAA/BSC Committee was well represented; we had the best turnout for last three years and our very own clinician, Marlon LeBlanc, head men’s coach from West Virginia University, made us proud. Marlon’s presentations were well-attended. Thanks to all who has worked extremely hard to make this event very special for the NSCAA/BSC Committee. Special thanks to our guest speaker, Dr. Margaret Ottley, who has given us words of inspiration for the New Year and what lies ahead for us. One of the best sports psychologists in the land reiterated that we have to be doers and continue to lead by the example of those who came before us and paved the way for us to be successful at what we do in life.

NSCAA-BSCC GENERAL MEETING
|
Our general meeting was well-attended and led by former chairman Sam Okpodu. Sam has led this committee with tremendous enthusiasm and showed strong leadership in his three years at the helm of this unique committee. Daniel Gordon, the new chairman of the NSCAA/BSCC spoke to the attendee about his appreciation for what the BSCC has done over the years of its existence. He called for more female participation within the executive body of the committee and more outreach initiatives throughout the United States and neighboring countries. This is the time to make our mark on our communities, he mentioned. Daniel was well-received and transition was well-noted and documented as such.
Founder Lincoln Phillips from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation spoke to the general membership about his appreciation of what we have done as a body to promote our coaches of color and the magnificent work that we continue to do to make football in this country more visible to all. Lincoln's passion for the game goes beyond what we do on the pitch; his dedication is also in the promotion of coaches globally. This way we will have successful communities with a very high level of diversity all rolled into one.
NSCAA/BSCC Booth
The NSCAA Community Village, which includes the Black Soccer Coaches Committee, Latin American Coaches Committee, Women’s Committee and the Native America Soccer Coaches Committee, was well-attended by Convention attendees in the Exhibit Hall. Thanks to all who came out to represent the BSCC at the booth! Thanks also for sharing with visitors about our role as a committee and how we may be able to assist them in their community. We had the pleasure this year of meeting several Caribbean football officials who have expressed an interest in having their coaches join the NSCAA in the near future.
RECOGNITION
I would like to take this time to recognize Guy Cornish for his continued hard work and dedication to the NSCAA/BSC Committee. Guy remains with the new administration as our new Director of Communications for all matters relating to our committee’s affairs. Guy is the glue that keeps us all together. Please join me and our executive body in thanking Guy for his hard work and dedication to a worthy cause.
BSCC/LASCC RECEPTION
The combined social between the Black Soccer Coaches Committee and Latin American Soccer Coaches Committee was attended by several well wishers, exhibitors and the various executive members of the NSCAA. Jeff Tipping, the former NSCAA Director of Education and Coaching Development, spoke to the audience and was well-received. We wish Jeff the best and we hope he will continue to be an adviser to the group.
