Diversity and Inclusion

The NSCAA celebrates the wonderfully diverse communities that weave together to form the tapestry of The Beautiful Game in the United States and around the world. Our goal is to create a resource area for the many different communities within our soccer family. Among these are the Women's Committee, the Latin American Soccer Coaches Committee, the Black Coaches Committee, the Native American Soccer Coaches Committee and other such groups.

The NSCAA is committed to celebrating and serving the needs of its diverse membership. As it matures, we hope this area will become a central gathering point that will help us understand and collaborate more effectively as we continue to grow our great sport.

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Under the direction of former NSCAA President Louise Waxler, the Association appointed its first Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which is a standing committee per the NSCAA's bylaws

The committee serves as an umbrella group over the already established NSCAA multi-cultural committees - the Black Soccer Coaches Committee, the Latin American Soccer Coaches Committee, the Women's Committee and the Native American Soccer Coaches Committee. In addition to its oversight function, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee develops the NSCAA diversity statement; critiques and recommends changes in the NSCAA diversity training courses; and explores other programming designed to expand the NSCAA's commitment to diversity.

Diversity Statement

The NSCAA Diversity Statement was developed by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and approved by the NSCAA Executive Committee in June 2007.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) is committed to fostering diversity by offering a welcoming and supportive environment for its members, leadership and other constituents, and to nurturing a learning and working environment that respects differences in culture, age, gender, race, ethnicity, physical ability, sexual orientation, religious affiliation and socio-economic status.

Recognizing that diversity enriches the educational experience, improves the practice and profession of coaching and enhances creativity and professional growth in the soccer community, the NSCAA emphasizes both demographic and intellectual diversity. This requires continued effort to attract and develop qualified persons of diverse backgrounds to participate in its educational, coaching and outreach mission and programs; a coaching curriculum and other learning experiences that provide exposure to diverse cultures, human characteristics and ways of thinking; and an organizational climate that stimulates innovation, values diverse contributions and encourages performance that leads to the advancement of its constituents.

The NSCAA particularly acknowledges the acute need to remove barriers to the recruitment, retention and advancement of talented members, leadership and other constituents from historically excluded populations who are currently underrepresented.
