Each session has been edited down to approximately 20 minutes of teaching and activities on the various subjects and is designed to provide instruction and coaching tips for the viewer. We hope that these sessions will provide you with many new ideas and activities to teach your players defensive tactics. This is the first of two discs of the defensive tactics set. This DVD features sessions on 1v1 defending, cover and switching roles, and defensive transition.
The next session features NSCAA Senior National Staff Coach, George Perry, teaching cover and switching roles.
George Perry: Good, now red starts with the ball here. Come on, hustle up, please. Nice give and go by red. As you turn and you play the ball to your teammate there. As she does that the first thing you need to do is drop straight back into here. You're going to stay up and pressure because she has the ball because it doesn't matter if she gets the ball back up here again because you're always between the ball and the goal. As she makes that pass and she runs past me, now if I'm up here too tight she's going to get an easy return and score a point on us. So as soon as she makes that pass you have got to drop off. Come on back here let me have the ball to start with. My pass you're going to close her down, let that pass go, and then you can do what you just did. Pass it to your teammate, get up there, yah, nope, I don't want you start back up on her, I want you to start up on her and drop when she makes that pass. Let me have the ball please. Let me have the ball. There we go. Give you the ball here, pass it across, come come, there you go that's the way to drop off. Good much better. Good defending, good. Other end, off yellow, reds got it. Here we go. Yep try to keep from scoring, good, find the target. Good.
