Keynote Speaker: Angela Hucles

A former member of the US Women's National Soccer Team, Angela Hucles is a 2x Olympic gold medalist, 2x World Cup athlete and winner of the US Soccer Foundation's prestigious Humanitarian of the Year award.

Leveraging her experience as an international competitor and sport development ambassador, Angela works to support individuals and organizations empowering women and children to live strong, healthy and powerful lives domestically and abroad.

Professional soccer career: international play

Angela made her first appearance for the United States on April 27th in 2002 against Finland. Throughout her career she appeared in 109 matches for the United States, with the last coming on July 22, 2009 against Canada. Hucles was a member of the 2003 World Cup squad but did not play in the tournament due to stress fractures. In 2004, she was a member of the US Olympic gold medal winning team in Athens then continued her success as a member of the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad in China. However, her biggest role with the United States came in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Hucles was expected to play a backup role with the squad, but an injury to Abby Wambach forced Hucles into a starting position. She responded by scoring four goals, including two against Japan in the semi-finals. Her efforts lead the US team to Olympic victory and she finished the tournament as the US leading goal scorer.

Professional soccer career: club play

Angela was drafted out of college during the 2001 WUSA Draft (93rd overall) by the Boston Breakers of the newly formed Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). She had 57 total appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals with 8 assists throughout the three seasons. In 2005, Hucles returned to club in the absence of the WUSA playing with the Boston Renegades. While only appearing in 5 games in 2005, she notched 3 goals and an assist. In 2006, Hucles appeared in 11 games for the Renegades tallying 10 goals and two assists. When Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) established itself in 2008, Hucles along with US teammates Kristine Lilly and Heather Mitts were allocated to the Boston Breakers. The league kicked off with its inaugural season in 2009, which saw Hucles start in 19 games notching two goals and an assist. Her retirement came on October 16th, 2009 when she announced retirement from both club and international soccer.
