Bocanegra’s Academy Highlighted at Summer Symposium

While it’s true that former U.S. National Team captain Carlos Bocanegra is coming home, joining Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA in early July, it’s safe to say CB3 has never left. Bocanegra and his leadership team have made a nationwide impact for players of all ages at the CB3 Sports Performance & Soccer Academy located in Upland, Calif.

According to Bocanegra, Jason (Jay) Mathews, who worked with the defender when he was the head athletic trainer for the Chicago Fire and the U.S. Youth National Teams, is the "workhorse" behind the nationally-acclaimed academy.

NSCAA and Provelop are partnering to provide coaches with the opportunity to take advantage of a One Day Coaching Intensive Program.

"You can't take that out of him." I often hear coaches make a comment like this about a player who finds himself in trouble due to his unmanaged emotions. "If you remove these from his game, he won't be half the player he is now" is another quote used in reference to a reckless challenge or a strong reaction to a referee’s decision. But is this true?

A player’s brain needs emotion to perform at a high level. But if you take this emotional intensity away from a player, is it really going to hinder his performance? In reality, we need to be asking the question in a different way.

Club development at Summer Symposium

The 2013 Summer Symposium has added a Club Development diploma to the schedule this August. The Club Development diploma is an opportunity for club coaches and leaders to receive additional education and certification on the development of an organization. Participants will be instructed on topics such as Club Standards, player development, and technical/tactical sessions.

Tony Sanneh uses soccer for change

Tony Sanneh's life has been about soccer. Today, his time with the sport involves using it as a character-building, culture-changing tool through The Sanneh Foundation, an organization he founded in 2003 that provides soccer-based life skills programs for at-risk children. "When I started, I didn't know how big it would be. When I retired, I knew that's what I wanted to do full time," Sanneh explained. "I was raised by the community, so I felt like it was what I should be doing."

Hucles' message as All-America Brunch keynote speaker: Be empowered

Angela Hucles has a voice and she is using it to empower young athletes. Eighteen years after being named an NSCAA High School All-American for her work at Norfolk Academy in Virginia (where she finished with 204 goals and 106 assists), Hucles will serve as the keynote speaker for the NSCAA High School Awards Brunch, Saturday, Aug. 3, in conjunction with the 2013 Summer Symposium in Orlando.

Coaches and players tee it up for NSCAA cause

Golf has long been a way for people to get away from the pressures of everyday and to relax. In the early morning of Aug. 1, a group of soccer coaches and players will tee it up at the Hawks Landing Golf Club at the Orlando Marriott World Center Resort, the site of the inaugural NSCAA Summer Symposium. The tournament will be captain's choice format, to encourage the participation of golfers of all levels. Everyone hits their tee shot and then the team captain will choose the best ball to play from for the next shot.
