NSCAA Community Guidelines (updated Feb, 22, 2012)
The following Community Guidelines exist to help you understand what it means to belong to the NSCAA online community. We are all a part of the largest soccer coaches’ organization in the world and our online community is an enjoyable, inspiring and supporting community in which we all "Learn. Participate. Belong."
When we says we we mean the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. There are active members of the community who are affiliated with the NSCAA but do not speak for the NSCAA.
All opinions and statements put forth on the online community by representatives of the NSCAA (National Office Staff, members of the Board of Directors and Academy Staff) do not reflect the viewpoints of the NSCAA and do not imply an endorsement on our part.
We may update these guidelines and do's and don'ts, so be sure to check back every once in a while. When we introduce a new community feature, we'll be sure to update the guidelines to reflect those changes.
What to do in the NSCAA Community.
Share your knowledge with those who need help. The more quality coaches there are in the world, the stronger the game of soccer will be. Upload .pdf's, share best practices, give advice, answer questions and place yourself as a thought leader among the largest soccer coaches’ organization in the world.
Be sincere in your contributions and in your purpose to inspire, enable or share information with fellow members.
Respect different points of view and opinions. We may not agree with everyone, but we stress the need to respect all members of our association and community.
Welcome newcomers. We all know how it feels to be the new person at the Convention or on the sidelines. We love it when another coach feels welcome and comments to us how our community is the best around.
Give feedback to your fellow coaches and us, in a helpful and constructive manner.
Be transparent and realize forum names are set as first names and last names for a reason. We're into honest, transparency and truth. This community is based around the relationships between members.
Keep it clean and please only post content that you would want your mother to see. Personal attacks, harassment and personal threats are not allowed nor tolerated.
Come back and engage in discussions and conversations with fellow members. It is through cooperative learning that we all benefit.
What not to do in the NSCAA Community.
As coaches, we realize the importance of giving second chances. However, there are certain rules that, if crossed, may result in your suspension or termination from the NSCAA online community.
Don't upload anything that isn't yours. This includes other people's photos, practice plans, books, pdf's for sale and other things you've collected around the internet. If we see links to unauthorized content, we will remove them immediately and those responsible will be contacted.
Don't forget the children. Many of us coach children under 18 years of age. Please remember child privacy laws when discussing certain problems related to our players or family members. Change names or do not use distinguishable characteristics if possible. If need be, seek parental or moderator permission before posting names and identifying information.
Don't vent your frustrations, rant or bore your fellow members. The community is a place to speak your mind, but remember others when doing so. Disagreements are welcomed and debates encouraged, but please do not harass, abuse or intimidate others. If we receive a valid complaint about your conduct, we'll send you a warning and discuss possible termination.
Don't be creepy. You know that person. Don't be that person.
Don't use the community to sell. Many of us who work in soccer sell products/camps/technology/equipment/trips and the like. If your product or a product you know fits into the course of a conversation, by all means please mention it and link out to it. However, consistent self-promotion or promotion of other products will not be tolerated. If you do self-promote or promote a product for which you receive compensation, it is mandatory that you share that information.
Don't use rude language. Humans swear. But please go easy on the sailor words or we'll be forced to get out the bar of soap. Remember, just because it's okay to you does not mean it's okay for someone else.
Don't create content of a discriminatory or derogatory nature. We will NEVER tolerate content that is offensive, humiliating or intimidating based on
• race, colour, ethnicity, nationality or physical characteristic
• gender or sexual orientation
• religion or non-religious viewpoints (i.e. secular humanism, atheism)
• political opinion
• socio-economic status
• physical, mental or intellectual disability/impairment
• the ways people express themselves
Any member caught discriminating against a fellow member will have their account suspended immediately and may face further action if necessary.
