"In the almost 20 years of coaching either basketball or soccer I have found that the kids sheer joy of the game has been the key to their and my happiness. When a player comes off the field and looks happy because they know they just had a great time the success is easily measured. There is no expectations needed to be set, no goals to be reached, only that we have done our best that we could at that time. This spring my girls will be playing their last season together. I will miss the time that we spend together on the sidelines. I have taken on a boys team on which I have no child of my own. As they have begun to see that they can never disappoint me because of outcome, they have begun to focus on their own effort. They almost always come to the sidelines with a smile. And it is for these smiles that I am a coach."
