O'Rourke, Pore and Segares earn invitations to St. Louis

A three-time All-Big Ten player, a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and a two-time Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year comprise the three finalists for the men’s 2004 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer. The finalists were determined in voting by Division I men’s soccer coaches who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Indiana University’s Danny O’Rourke (Columbus, Ohio), University of Tulsa’s Ryan Pore (Mansfield, Ohio) and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Gonzalo Segares (San Jose, Costa Rica) are the three finalists who will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, for a news conference which will feature the announcement of the winner of the coveted crystal soccer ball trophy. A banquet at the Club immediately following the announcement will feature the formal presentation of the award to the winter.

O’Rourke, a senior midfielder, has started every game he has played during his four-year career with the Hoosiers. He was a unanimous choice for this third first-team All-Big Ten selection of his career. His solid play has anchored a stingy IU defense that has resulted in the 2003 NCAA title and a second consecutive trip to the Men’s College Cup.

A junior forward, Pore has led the Golden Hurricane in scoring, scoring a school single-season record 22 goals while amassing 33 points. He helped Tulsa to its best season ever, reaching the NCAA quarterfinals. He was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Segares played in and started every game for the Rams. The Colonial Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, he scored four goals this season while leading a defense that posted eight shutouts.

The NSCAA is the Official Voting Body for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy.
