Miller Bugliari, who has guided the boys soccer team at The Pingry School in New Jersey for more than 45 years, will be enshrined as the 41st member of the NSCAA Hall of Fame at the National Soccer Hall of Fame during the Big 3 Enshrinement Weekend in Oneonta, N.Y. The ceremonies will be held on Aug. 5, 2006.

The Big 3 Weekend incorporates the enshrinement of honorees from three major soccer associations: NSCAA, American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) and the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NISOA). Bugliari will be the lone NSCAA representative, while AYSO will honor Brandi Chastain, Joy Fawcett and Julie Foudy, who began their stellar soccer careers as AYSO players. NISOA will honor standout referees Mike Balson, Alex Ivahnenko and Pierce Richardson.
A graduate of The Pingry School himself, Bugliari was handed the reins of the boys’ soccer team by his former high school coach in 1960. It was the beginning of an unparalleled career, including four national coach of the year awards, 20 New Jersey Prep “A” state titles and 17 County Championships. Entering the 2005 season, he had a career record of 645 wins, 85 losses and 50 ties, a stellar .859 winning percentage. His teams have recorded 13 undefeated seasons, fashioning unbeaten streaks that have reached 40 or more three times, including a 55-game string. He has been named New Jersey State Coach of the Year seven times and was elected to the New Jersey High School Hall of Fame in 2000.

Bugliari also helped establish the New Jersey Soccer Coaches Association and has served the NSCAA in a variety of ways from 1974 to present, including a year as its president in 1979. He received an NSCAA Letter of Commendation in 1987, the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NISOA) Merit Award in 1996 and the NSCAA Honor Award in 2000 (pictured at right). In 1997, he became the first recipient of the NSCAA’s High School Long-Term Service Award. That same year, he was inducted into the National High School Federation Hall of Fame.

During his time at Pingry, Bugliari helped found the Morris County Soccer Tournament and the New Jersey State Soccer Coaches Association. In 1958 he received a bachelor’s degree in science from Springfield College, where he played soccer for legendary coach and fellow NSCAA Hall of Famer Irv Schmid.

Bugliari was inducted into the NSCAA Hall of Fame at the annual NSCAA Awards Banquet, held on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, as a part of the association’s annual convention in Philadelphia, Pa.
