Pilots place four, Penn State three on first team

Led by four-time honorees Christine Sinclair (Burnaby, B.C.) and Lindsey Huie (Mission Viejo, Calif.), newly-crowned NCAA champion Portland placed five players on the 2005 NSCAA/adidas Women’s Division I All-America Team.

Sinclair and Huie each earned NSCAA recognition all four years of their collegiate careers, marking the first time two teammates have achieved the feat in the same year. They were joined on the first team by teammates Stephanie Lopez (Elks Grove, Calif.) and Megan Rapinoe (Redding, Calif.), while Angie Woznuk (El Cajon, Calif.) earned third-team honors. Sinclair is a finalist for the 2005 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, a prize she won last season.

After extending Portland to overtime penalty kicks in the College Cup semifinal, Penn State also gave the Pilots a run for most first-team representatives with three. Leading the way is two-time Hermann Trophy finalist Tiffany Weimer (North Haven, Conn.), followed by goalkeeper Erin McLeod (Vancouver, B.C.) and midfielder Ali Krieger (Dumfries, Va.).

Players that participated in the 2005 Women’s College Cup claimed 12 of the 37 slots on this year’s team. UCLA was represented by Danesha Adams (Shaker Heights, Ohio), Valerie Henderson (Orinda, Calif.) and Jill Oakes (West Hills, Calif.), while Florida State’s India Trotter (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was a second-team selection. Notre Dame took four spots, including first-team selection and Hermann Trophy finalist Katie Thorlakson (Langley, B.C.).

The honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, as part of the 2006 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.
