Louise Waxler, Immediate Past President of the NSCAA, has been appointed to the management team for the Washington Freedom women's professional soccer team, which will be part of the newly-launched women's professional league in 2009.

Waxler, who served as NSCAA president in 2006, will serve as Director of Operations for the Freedom for President and General Manager Joe Quinn. Jim Gabarra has been named head coach of the team, with Clyde Watson serving as assistant coach.

"My family and I have enormous confidence in this management team and we are very pleased to continue our support of women's professional soccer," said John Hendricks, Chairman and Managing Member of Freedom Soccer, LLC. "The Washington Freedom has continued its enviable record of success on the playing field under Jim Gabarra and Clyde Watson.  We look forward to many victories ahead."

In other news from the new league, NSCAA Goalkeeping Institute Director Tony DiCicco has been named the coach of the Boston Breakers franchise. During his six years as the coach of the U.S. Women's National Team, DiCicco compiled a record of 103-8-8 and led the squad to the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and the championship of the 1999 Women's World Cup. He will be coaching for past NSCAA president Joe Cummings, who is serving as President and General Manager of the Boston franchise.
