Top Division I Teams Compete to Raise Funds for Breast Cancer

Eleven of the top Women’s College Soccer teams and four outstanding youth teams will participate in the 12th Annual KICKS Against Breast Cancer College Tournament on April 12, 2008, at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md. This event will provide a weekend of college soccer and philanthropy. Gathering some of the best college soccer programs in the country, teams will make a difference off the field in the lives of people affected by cancer. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Howard County General Hospital’s Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center: a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Columbia, Md., a 501c3 non-profit organization supporting individual’s affected by cancer.

SCHEDULE
April 12, 2008 – Games will be held beginning at 9:00 am at the Maryland SoccerPlex fields in Germantown, Md. A special stadium match will feature the 2007 W-League Champions Washington Freedom vs. Penn State University at 6 pm.
At noon, the first SOCCER MOM CAMP will be held for moms of all ages – no soccer experience required! This 90-minute clinic will be led by MSYSA Director of Coaching Bill Stara as well as numerous college coaches whose teams will be represented in this year’s tournament. The Soccer Mom Camp honors USYS Region I Girls ODP Administrator Charlotte Moran, who recently was diagnosed with cancer. We ask everyone to join in the fun and help us make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
HISTORY
The KICKS Against Breast Cancer Intercollegiate Soccer Tournament was established in honor of Claudia Mayer, a friend of tournament Director Louise Waxler (Washington Freedom), who passed away in 1996 after a two-year battle with breast cancer. Since the inception of the tournament 11 years ago, donations and fundraising by participating teams has totaled more than $600,000. The funds have been used to assist with the operating expenses for Howard County General Hospital’s Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center in Columbia, Md.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
