2007 Collegiate National Players of the Year Announced

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has announced its NSCAA/adidas National Players of the Year for intercollegiate play, with the exception of the NCAA Division I level. Those players will be announced on Friday, Jan. 11, as the recipients of the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy.

Each of the recipients will be recognized at the NSCAA/adidas All-America Luncheon, to be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Marriott Waterfront in conjunction with the 2008 NSCAA Convention in Baltimore, Md.

NCAA Division II Men
James Thorpe, K, Sr., Franklin Pierce University, East Longmeadow, Mass.
Thorpe is the first three-time All-America in Franklin Pierce history. The first four-time Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year, he led the NE-10 with 12 shutouts. He was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player at the Final Four and didn’t concede a goal in 200 minutes of action. He set an NCAA record for all divisions for career minutes played, while his 49 shutouts are one shy of the Division II mark. His 0.66 career goals are school and conference marks, while his .811 career save percentage is second in program history.

NCAA Division II Women
Shannon Aitken, K, Sr., University of Tampa, Land O’Lakes, Fla.
Aitken concluded her senior season with a record of 20-2-3 in goal with a 0.61 GAA while leading Tampa to the NCAA title. She allowed just 16 goals in 25 matches and 2354:46 minutes of play. She also registered a school-record 14 shutouts as she concludes her UT career with a school-record 40. Aitken’s 59 career wins also is a UT record. She had a 38-5-4 record in her last two seasons at Tampa.

NCAA Division III Men
Kai Kasiguran, M, Sr., Messiah College, Oakwood Village, Ohio
Kasiguran selection caps a stellar career that includes four NSCAA/adidas All-America team honors and three NCAA Division III titles. He answered the call in all 97 games during his four years, logging 36 goals and 25 assists. A three-time Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year, he earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American honors and is a four-time all-conference and NSCAA/adidas All-Region first-team selection.

NCAA Division III Women
Taryne Lee, F, So., Wheaton (Ill.) College, St. Charles, Ill.
Lee, the 2007 CCIW Most Outstanding Player, scored a school single-season record 27 goals this year, adding nine assists. She tallied 63 total points this year to establish another single-season record for the Thunder while leading the team to the NCAA title. In just two seasons at Wheaton she has scored 47 career goals and served up 24 assists, giving her 118 career points.

NAIA Men
Ricardo Pierre-Louis, F, Jr., Lee University, Leoganes, Haiti
A three-time NSCAA/adidas All-America, Pierre-Louis becomes the first player in school history to receive National Player of the Year honors. Despite missing a month of the season due to a leg injury, he ended the year with 29 goals. He closes his collegiate career with Lee's records for single-season (33) and career (101) scoring.

NAIA Women
Marcia Silva, D, Jr., Martin Methodist College, Valinhos, Brazil
Starting 23 matches this season, Silva helped lead the Martin Methodist defense to 15 shutouts. Opposing teams only scored 13 goals against the RedHawks this season in 24 games. Silva was selected to the TranSouth All-Conference Team, the Region XI First Team, was named the National Tournament MVP, and was selected First Team NAIA All-American.

Junior College Division I Men
Roger Dacosta, D, Sr., Tyler Junior College, Johannesburg, South Africa
DaCosta led the Apaches to 10 shutouts this season and allowed only 14 goals in 18 matches. A two-time NSCAA/adidas All-Region first-team selection, he served as team captain as a sophomore. He tallied one goal and one assist in his final season at Tyler.

Junior College Division I Women
Shaneka Gordon, F, So., CCBC-Catonsville, Randallstown, Md.
Gordon led Catonsville to a 20-1 record and the NJCAA national title, scoring 26 goals and recording eight assists for a total of 60 points. She has earned NSCAA/adidas All-America honors at both levels of junior college play after claiming Division III recognition at Long Beach City College in 2005. The Region XX Player of the Year, she was named the Most Valuable Forward of the NJCAA Tournament.

Junior College Division III Men
Karlos Gonzalez, F, So., Mt. San Antonio College, Alhambra, Calif.

Gonzalez claimed South Coast Conference Player of the Year honors after leading the Mounties to a 20-0-2 regular-season record. In 20 games, he scored 18 goals and added 12 assists for a total of 48 points.

Junior College Division III Women
Emily Dixon, F, So., Broome Community College, Windsor, N.Y.
Dixon led Broome to its first NJCAA national championship in any sport. She scored 29 goals this season. She scored both goals in the 2-1 victory over Gloucester to secure the national title, earning tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
