NSCAA Vice President for Conventions and Awards Randy Waldrum, the women's coach at the University of Notre Dame, will coach the Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 women’s team this summer as it tries to qualify for the Youth World Cup in New Zealand later in 2008.

The qualifying event will be held in Trinidad and Tobago at Bacolet’s Dwight Yorke Stadium and Marvin Lee Stadium, from July 17-26. Eight teams qualified for the CONCACAF region tournament, including Trinidad and Tobago, the United States, Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Three of the eight teams will qualify for the inaugural U-17 Youth World Cup in New Zealand.

There will be two groups of four with the draw to determine these groups later this summer. Group play will be July 17-21, with the semi-finals and finals to be held on July 24 and July 26.

Waldrum has worked with the Trinidad and Tobago Federation for the past two summers and has helped it organize a structure for the women’s national team program.

“It’s a great honor to be named the coach of the U-17’s, and I look forward to the challenge that lies ahead,” said Waldrum. “I’ve found the people of Trinidad and Tobago to be very friendly and of course very passionate about soccer. This experience at the international level will only help our program here at Notre Dame, and it gives me a great opportunity to show others what our mission here at Notre Dame is all about.”

Waldrum has a record of 185-29-8 during his nine-year Notre Dame tenure. He has guided the Fighting Irish to five trips to NCAA's College Cup, including the 2004 national title.
