Lindsay Taylor (Stanford/Los Altos, Calif.) and Sam Petrone (Seton Hall/Glen Rock, N.J.) enjoyed prolific scoring weekends to earn NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for Sept. 10.
Taylor led Stanford to a pair of victories with three goals, including both in the Cardinal’s 2-0 win over No. 22 Georgia. Petrone found the net eight times in three games, powered by a four-goal performance as Seton Hall downed St. Peter’s 5-2.
Each week, a male and female player will be selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 10 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches. This week the women’s schedule kicks off when Kentucky travels to No. 14 West Virginia for a 8 p.m. ET match-up on Thursday, Sept. 11. The following evening features a showdown in the Northwest as Washington travels to Portland for an 11 p.m. ET start.
Lindsay Taylor
F, Fr., Stanford, Los Altos, Calif.
Taylor posted seven points with three goals and an assist in the Cardinal’s games against Auburn and Georgia last weekend. Competing in the Georgia/Nike Invitational, the rookie scored the second goal of the game and assisted on the team’s third goal in the 3-0 win against Auburn. In the following game against the No. 22 Bulldogs, Taylor netted two goals in a five-minute span, the second coming in a 1 v. 1 showdown with Georgia’s goal keeper to earn the 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs. After play last weekend, Taylor now leads Stanford with five goals in five games.
Sam Petrone
F, So., Seton Hall, Glen Rock, N.J.
Petrone recorded 17 points on eight goals and one assist in Seton Hall’s 3-0 week. He started the week with a four-goal game in a 5-2 win over St. Peter’s on Sept. 1. Petrone’s four goals were one short of the single-game school record of five set in 1986 by Peter Matischak against North Adams State. The sophomore forward added one tally against Richmond (3-0) in first-day action at the Nike/Alltel Classic on Sept. 5, and then followed up with a three-goal performance and an assist against host Virginia Commonwealth (4-1) on Sept. 7. Petrone earned Offensive MVP honors.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
