Sanna Talonen (Florida State/Tampere, Finland) and Warren Gross (Penn State/Greenfield Center, N.Y.) have earned NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for Nov. 5.

Talonen earns her second honor of the season after scoring two goals against No. 2 North Carolina to salvage a draw on the road for Florida State. She was the NSCAA National Player of the Week on Oct. 22. Gross allowed only one goal while helping Penn State to a tie and a win against a pair of Top 20 teams.

Each week, a male and female player will be selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 10 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches. This Friday’s men’s contest spotlights a service academy rivalry as Navy travels to Army on Nov. 7 for 8 p.m. ET kickoff. The schedule concludes on

Sanna Talonen
F, So., Florida State, Tampere, Finland

Talonen accounted for three goals and six points in last week’s matches that closed the regular season. Talonen scored both goals as the No. 6 Seminoles rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie No. 2 North Carolina 2-2 in the Oct. 30 game at Chapel Hill. Her efforts helped FSU end the Tar Heels' 11-game winning streak and marked just the second time in UNC school history (a span of more than 700 matches) that the Tar Heels had failed to win a match after leading by two goals or more. Talonen followed that with what proved to be the winning goal in the 5-2 win at NC State on Nov. 2. She has scored at least one goal in eight of her last nine games, and her 14 goals for the season lead FSU.

Warren Gross
GK, Fr., Penn State, Greenfield Center, N.Y.

In just the third and fourth starts of his career, Gross piloted the Nittany Lion defense to tie No. 2 Akron, 1-1, and defeat No. 17 Indiana, 1-0, last week. Against the Zips, Gross tallied six saves and allowed only one goal against a team that averaged more than three scores per game in its previous 10 contests. The freshman stopped three shots on goal against the Hoosiers en route to his first career shutout.
