Tiffany McCarty (Florida State/Laurel, Md.) and Kevin Tangney (Maryland/Newton, Pa.) gave the Atlantic Coast Conference a sweep of the NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for Sept. 30.
McCarty became the second Florida State player to receive the award this season by leading the Seminoles to a pair of wins over ranked conference foes last week, while Tangney helped reigning national champion Maryland claim an upset victory over North Carolina before a national television audience on Fox Soccer Channel’s NSCAA College Game of the Week.
Each week, a male and female player will be selected from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 11 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches. This week the cameras will travel west as No. 11 UC Santa Barbara (6-2-1) hosts perennial power No. 9 Indiana (4-2-1) for an 11 p.m. ET kickoff. The women’s schedule will see Wyoming (5-4-2) face Northern Colorado (4-4-1) in a match that will be played on Sunday afternoon and broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Tiffany McCarty
F, So., Florida State, Laurel, Md.
McCarty led No. 5 Florida State to victories over two ranked ACC opponents last week, registering five points on two goals and an assist. In Thursday’s game against No. 9 Maryland, McCarty broke a scoreless tie in the 18th minute by sneaking a low liner inside the right post for the goal. She followed with a goal and an assist against Boston College. She gave the Seminoles a 2-1 lead with her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 23rd minute against the Eagles, then assisted on Jessica Price’s game-winner in the 73rd minute. It was her first game-winning assist of the season and second of her career.
Kevin Tangney
D, Sr., Maryland, Newton, Pa.
Tangney led his No. 4 Terrapins to a pair of victories, including a down-to-the-wire upset of No. 2 North Carolina. The win over the Tar Heels extended Maryland’s unbeaten streak to six games and was the 600th victory for the men’s program. Tangney’s header found the upper right corner of the net with less than two minutes left in the game to give Maryland the win in front of a Ludwig Field record crowd of 6,946 and a national television audience on Fox Soccer Channel’s NSCAA College Game of the Week. Tangney, who provided a vital role in back-to-back defensive shutouts over Saint Peter’s and North Carolina, also is featured in a story on NCAA.com detailing his inspirational return to action after two separate ACL surgeries sidelined him for two seasons.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
