Gallaugher Tops Senior College National Players of the Year

Kevin Gallaugher (Cal State-Dominguez Hills/Walnut, Calif.) became the first player to repeat as an NSCAA Men's NCAA Division II National Player of the Year, leading a field of stellar performers who earned the distinction in 2009.
Joining Gallaugher among the honorees at the senior college level were Irie Dennis (Grand Valley State/New Albany, Ohio) at the Division II level; Jon Ports (York College/Baltimore, Md.) and Erin Hench (Messiah College/Carlisle, Pa.) for Division III and Colin Streckmann (Simon Fraser/Burnaby, B.C.) and Christiane Christensen (Lee University/Oslo, Norway) for NAIA play.
All National Players of the Year will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 16 as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
NCAA Division II
Men
Kevin Gallaugher, D, Sr., Cal State-Dominguez Hills, Walnut, Calif.
Claiming the award for the second consecutive year, Gallaugher becomes the first NCAA Division II men's soccer player to win multiple POY. He was instrumental in shutting out 11 opponents and allowing just one goal in 10 other contests as he helped limit opposing offenses to a .082 shot percentage and only 20 goals, an average of 0.78 goals scored per game. He also contributed offensively, scoring six goals (third on the team), with five coming from penalty kicks.
Women
Irie Dennis, F, Sr., Grand Valley State, New Albany, Ohio
Dennis led GVSU to an undefeated season and its first NCAA national championship. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Year, she recorded two assists in the NCAA semifinal match in the 3-2 overtime win over Saint Rose. Dennis finished the year with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points while starting all 26 of GVSU's games, playing a total of 1614 minutes.
NCAA Division III
Men
Jon Ports, F, Sr., York College, Baltimore, Md.
Ports led York with 23 points on seven goals and nine assists despite being the focus of opponents’ defensive game plans throughout the season. A three-time NSCAA All-America, he is a two-time Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He leaves the Spartan program after scoring 33 goals, including 12 game-winners, and distributing 35 assists, tying him for first all-time in program history.
Women
Erin Hench, Jr., F, Messiah College, Carlisle, Pa.
The Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year, she was second on the team in both goals (16) and points (50) and led the squad with 18 assists. She had two goals and three assists in the team’s final four games, including the assist on the game-winning goal that gave Messiah its second consecutive NCAA title.
NAIA
Men
Colin Streckmann, M, Sr., Simon Fraser, Burnaby, B.C.
Streckmann led the Clan to a 20-4-0 overall record in 2009, an Association of Independent Institutions Championship and a berth in the NAIA semifinals. He finished the year second on the team with 23 points and tied for the team lead with seven assists. He concluded his SFU career with 15 goals and 44 points in 75 total games. His senior season featured career highs in goals, assists, points, shots, game-winning goals and shooting percentage.
Women
Christiane Christensen, F, Sr., Lee University, Oslo, Norway
Christensen helped direct the Lady Flames to back-to-back NAIA championships and is a two-time NSCAA All-America. As a senior, she tallied 16 goals and contributed 15 assists and was named the Most Valuable Player of the NAIA Tournament.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
