Colleen Deegan (Maryland/Centreville, Va.) and Will Bruin (Indiana/St. Louis, Mo.) scored timely goals in their teams’ victories over ranked foes and have earned NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 13.

Deegan’s game-winning header with eight seconds showing gave the Terps a 2-1 win over No. 4 Boston College, while Bruin tallied two goals in less than two minutes to propel the Hoosiers to a victory over No. 11 Creighton.

Each week, a male and female player will be selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 3 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches.

This week’s busy schedule starts with a Big 12 women’s battle when Colorado visits No. 5 Oklahoma State Thursday, Oct. 14, for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff. Friday, Oct. 15, a men’s doubleheader is on tap, leading off with Boston University traveling to Baltimore to face UMBC at 8 p.m. ET. In the nightcap, Duke will step out of conference and put its No. 19 ranking on the line when the Blue Devils head to California to face UC Santa Barbara at 11 p.m. ET.

Colleen Deegan
D, Sr., Maryland, Centreville, Va.

Deegan was a central figure for the Terps both offensively and defensively in back-to-back conference road wins.  In a 2-1 victory at No. 4 Boston College, Deegan scored the game-winning goal with just eight seconds left in the match. The 5-foot-10 center back carved out enough space in the box to get on the end of a corner kick to head home the game-winning goal. She also helped the Terps’ defense hold the high-powered Eagles, who came into the game averaging nearly three goals per game, to just one goal. Deegan followed that up with a stellar defensive effort in the 1-0 shutout win at NC State, which had been averaging 2.0 goals per game. She also helped set up the game’s lone goal with a great pass against the grain to sophomore Megan Gibbons, who then crossed the ball into the box where junior Jasmyne Spencer finished the play with a one-timer.

Will Bruin
F, Jr., Indiana, St. Louis, Mo.

Bruin scored three goals last week, upping his season total to 10, en route to his second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season. Bruin scored the Hoosiers' only goal against Notre Dame on Wednesday, tallying in the 24th minute to tie the score at one before Indiana fell in a 2-1 decision. The junior scored two goals less than two minutes apart to help the upset-minded Hoosiers take down No. 11 Creighton, 3-2, on the road on Saturday. Bruin's first marker came off a header in the 29th minute with his second following in the 31st. He is the first Indiana player to reach double-digit goals in a season since 2005.
