Meghan Lenczyk (Virginia/McLean, Va.) and Dylan Mares (Louisville/Zionsville, Ind.) scored goals to spark wins over nationally-ranked opponents and claim NSCAA National Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 6.
Lenczyk put in the overtime goal that gave the Cavaliers a 3-2 victory over No. 2 Boston College, while Mares found the net as the Cardinals downed No. 18 St. John’s in overtime.
Each week, a male and female player will be selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 3 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches. This Friday features a men’s/women’s doubleheader for the second consecutive week. Leading off is a Southern Conference men’s match-up as Davidson travels to Wofford for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff. At 11 p.m. ET, the Navy women’s team sets sail for West Point to square off against Army in a clash of military academies.
Meghan Lenczyk
F, Sr., Virginia, McLean, Va.
Lenczyk scored five points in two conference matches, including the overtime goal that lifted the Cavaliers to a 3-2 win over No. 2 Boston College last Sunday. The game-winning goal vs. the Eagles was Lenczyk's ACC-leading fifth of the season. The score moved her into the eighth spot on Virginia's all-time goals list (33) and to ninth in career points (77). She also had a hand in both scores (one goal and one assist) in the Cavaliers' tough 3-2 loss at No. 7 Maryland in a driving rainstorm last Thursday. Lenczyk has scored or assisted on a goal in each of Virginia's three ACC matches to date.
Dylan Mares
M, Fr., Louisville, Zionsville, Ind.
Mares netted goals in both the Cardinals’ win against Kentucky, a 2-0 shutout, and a 2-1 overtime win against St. John’s. Mares scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute that would become the game-winner against the Wildcats. He scored another unassisted goal to lead Louisville past No. 18 St. John’s on Saturday.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
