The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has created a new educational event: So You Want to be a Soccer Coach.

The new course is designed to help prospective soccer coaches become familiar with the different levels of coaching (youth, high school and college) as well as the various coaching organizations that can help guide their path to a coaching career. Many coaches will tell you that they did not know exactly how to become a coach when beginning their career. This course helps address that issue and is the starting point for all those wishing to become a soccer coach.

The inaugural So You Want to be a Soccer Coach course will be offered during the 2012 NSCAA Convention at the Kansas City Convention Center on Saturday, Jan. 14. Located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, the Convention Center is convenient to the Power and Light District, with many other food and entertainment options available within a short walking distance.

The course is a single-day event that will help further advance the NSCAA vision, which is to be “the leading organization in the world dedicated to serving the needs of soccer coaches.” Top instructors such as Gary Cook, Deb Raber and Pam Vaughan will be on hand to provide direction to prospective coaches through lectures, question and answer sessions, coursework and general exposure to the NSCAA Convention. The NSCAA is excited to have such distinguished instructors leading this event.

An NSCAA Regional Director and Associate National Staff Coach, Gary Cook has been the head coach at Wilbraham and Monson Academy for the past 31 years. With 36 years of coaching, Cook has amassed more than 200 wins, three regional championships and has coached three All-Americas.

Deb Raber has been the head coach at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts since 2000 and has been named MASCAC Coach of the Year twice (2007, 2009). Raber is a member of the NSCAA Ethics Committee, National Goalkeeper Staff and Associate National Staff.

Pam Vaughan, a past NCAA All-America at Brandeis University, has been the head coach at Nashoba Regional High School in Massachusetts for 15 years and has compiled 217 wins in her career. Vaughan is a four-time Central Massachusetts Coach of the Year and has led her teams to five district championships and the 2004 state title.

The NSCAA Convention is the World’s Largest Annual Gathering of Soccer Coaches and features live field demonstrations and lectures from some of the top coaching clinicians in the world. Along with an impressive line-up of clinicians, the Convention features the Largest Soccer-Specific Trade Show in the United States and more. Attendees to So You Want to be a Soccer Coach will have the opportunity to experience the entire event.
