Inspireum Soccer Awards

The Inspireum Soccer Awards celebrate outstanding young athletes, not because of their statistical performance, but because of their ability both on and off the soccer field to inspire teammates, classmates, families and communities.  This year we will discover, amplify, and celebrate hundreds of soccer players nationwide who display great character, courage, contribution and commitment.  Players are nominated by coaches, parents, teammates, and friends for this prestigious award.

The 2011 Winners for the Inspireum Soccer Award is Christian Metzler, Woodbridge, VA. Metzler capped off his high school career as he scored the game-winning penalty kick. This goal had multiple meanings for the senior keeper. The main reason was that he was born with only one leg. The top ranked keeper used his prosthetic leg to score the point. Metzler has lead Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School soccer team to a winning season as the 13th ranked team in Virginia. He earend a spot on the Second All-State Team. Off-the-field he volunteers countless hours at the Walter Reed and Bethesda Medical Centers mentoring children and as a companion for wounded warriors with prosthetics.
