Meet the Staff: Methodist University, National and Advanced National Diplomas

Each summer the NSCAA features 6-8 college campuses where we offer the residential National, Advanced National and Premier Diploma courses of our Coaching Academy. Over the next several weeks, we will take a look at each of the sites where you can take either the National or Advanced National Diploma.
This week we are going to take a closer look at Methodist University, located in Fayetteville, NC. The summer of 2012 marks the first summer the NSCAA has run any of our coaching academy courses at Methodist. We will be offering both the National and Advanced National Diploma courses the week of June 18-24, a week that coincides with the beginning of summer break for most public school systems in the region. The availability of Methodist University during this summer break period made the selection a logical choice.
Each of the courses we offer is staffed by NSCAA National Staff Coaches who are superlative coaching educators. The course Directors this summer at Methodist University are Peter Broadley and George Perry. Peter will be directing the National Diploma while George will serve as the Director for the Advanced National Diploma. Joining Peter as staff coaches for the National Diploma will be Laura Kerrigan, Timo Liekoski, Bill Steffen and Alan Ewing. George will be joined by Sue Ryan, Barry Gorman, Dave Gregson and Paul Payne for the Advanced National Diploma. Each of these coaches earned their spots on our National Staff by virtue of their outstanding ability to help other coaches become more capable teachers of the game, and all have built their own coaching careers in addition to serving as NSCAA National Staff coaches.
Peter Broadley currently serves as the Executive Director for the Cape Fear Soccer Association. A former college coach in North Carolina, Peter has served as the NSCAA Regional Director for Region 4 for just over 10 years.
George Perry currently serves on the NSCAA Executive Committee as the Vice President for Education. George will assume the role of NSCAA President in January 2014. When not dealing with NSCAA “stuff”, George is the Head Men’s Coach at Monmouth College in Illinois.
Laura Kerrigan, will be one of two female staff coaches working at Methodist. Laura, who is currently a faculty member and Head Girls Soccer Coach at Cary High School in Cary, NC, also serves as the NSCAA State Director for North Carolina.
Timo Liekoski has coached soccer internationally at many levels, including tenures as the Head Coach of the MLS Columbus Crew and an Assistant Coach on the U.S. Men’s National Team and and has built a reputation over 30+ years as an excellent coaching educator!
Dr. Bill Steffen serves the NSCAA Academy in many capacities. As well as being a member of the NSCAA National Staff, Bill serves on our Goalkeeping Staff, the Director of Coaching Diploma staff and is our foremost presenter in sport psychology and mental skills training. Bill currently lives in Greensboro, N.C.
Alan Ewing is the Head Coach and Program Development for the Concorde Fire Soccer Club in Atlanta, Ga. He holds his NSCAA Premier Diploma and his UEFA ‘B’ coaching license. He has been the NSCAA State Director for Georgia since 2005.
The Methodist venue is blessed with two exceptional female instructors for the week, as Sue Ryan brings a wealth of experience to this course. Sue is currently the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Stony Brook University in New York and served as the Chair of the NSCAA Women’s Committee. At the 2012 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, MO, Sue was presented with the NSCAA/WAGS Women’s Award of Excellence. Sue aspires to a career as a stand-up comedienne, but she is a much better coaching educator!
A Past President of the NSCAA, Barry Gorman brings a wealth of experience to the NSCAA Coaching Academy. Barry served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Penn State University for 22 years before resigning to become the Technical Director for FC Dallas. When asked what he thought was the best thing about the NSCAA Coaching Academy, Barry thought it was the interaction of coaches at all levels of the game and that there were good people caring about the development of the game.
Dave Gregson, Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Embry-Riddle University, has served in that capacity for the last 18 years (and won 234 games!). Throughout his years on the NSCAA Coaching Academy Staff, Dave served as the Region 5 Director and has taught numerous non-residential diploma and residential diploma courses.
Last, but certainly not least, Paul Payne, the Immediate Past President of the NSCAA, is also slated to instruct at Methodist University this summer. Paul is the Head Men’s Coach at Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA. He has spent the last 5 ½ years serving on the NSCAA Executive Committee.

As is always the case at our Coaching Academy, the NSCAA National Staff Coaches listed here are scheduled to teach at this venue. This list is subject to change. The course Director will assign, on site and at random, all course registrants to a squad to be led and evaluated by one of the Staff Coaches listed here.
We are excited to get our summer courses under way. If the Methodist University dates or location don’t work for you, please visit us at http://www.nscaa.com/education/courses for a full list of coaching course opportunities.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
