Threading the needle. Making the connection. Give-and-go.

Regardless of how you say it, this week’s Online Resource Library feature examines a fundamental part of soccer: passing.

New to the library is Gareth Smith’s “Simple Passing and Combination Exercises,” which is a training exercise recommended for groups between U-10 and U-18.

The exercise is meant to improve quick short passing accuracy and reinforce the concept of moving after the pass.

Also available is Peter Schreiner’s “One touch passing: Variations in diamond formation.” Schreiner, a clinician at the 2013 Convention, covers the basic formation, along with three other variations and typical mistakes within the formation.

Other articles available in the Online Resource Library include pass receiving as a three-zone activity by David Saward, in which he shares a series of activities using zone play. The activities are meant to promote technical and tactical proficiency.

Also available is an exercise designed to teach techniques of passing and receiving. To find articles and training sessions specific to this topic, use the search function under the “Online Resource Library” header and search “passing.”

These articles and so many more (more than 500, in fact) are available in the Online Resource Library. Articles include activities and full training sessions to explore and the NSCAA features some of those articles weekly.

The Online Resource Library is just one of the many benefits that accompany an NSCAA membership. From online resources and coaching education courses to general liability insurance and networking opportunities, the NSCAA is your one-stop association that provides all you need for your coaching activities.
