A pair of ACC standouts have been recognized for their exemplary work on the field last week, as Duke’s James Belshaw and No. 9 Virginia’s Caroline Miller have been named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Players of the Week.
Belshaw, a Nottingham, England native, played an instrumental part in two Duke shutouts versus Georgia State (3-0) and Clemson (2-0). In addition to his seven saves, the senior goalkeeper recorded his first collegiate career goal against the Tigers on a penalty kick in the 71st minute.
Belshaw earned his second ACC Player of the Week honor earlier this week, and was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week. He’s 3-3-0 on the season with a 0.84 goals-against average and .808 save percentage.
Miller recorded eight points on four goals last week and put herself in the Cavalier women’s soccer history books. In the team’s eighth-straight win over NC State, the senior forward scored two second-half goals in an 86-second span, marking her seventh career multi-goal game.
The Rockville, Md., native also became the 13th player in program history to reach the 30-career goal mark.
She followed up with another multi-goal game Sunday in a 2-2 draw against North Carolina. Miller scored both Virginia goals, preserving the team’s nine-game unbeaten streak.
The Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Players of the Week are announced every Wednesday. One male and one female player is selected by a committee from nominations submitted primarily by NCAA Division I conferences.
Winners will also be recognized during Friday’s NSCAA College Game of the Week broadcasts on FOX Soccer.
This week’s other men’s finalists included senior forward Christian McLaughlin (James Madison), junior defender Luke Mishu (Notre Dame), freshman defender Bjarki Adalsteinsson (James Madison), freshman defender Axel Sjoberg (Marquette) and freshman forward Valeriy Sviderskiy (Davidson).
The other women’s finalists included junior forward Nicholette DiGiancomo (Denver), junior defender Alexa St. Martin (Georgetown), sophomore defender Arin Gilliland (Kentucky) and freshman forward Janine Beckie (Texas Tech).

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
