This week’s NSCAA College Game of the Week is a Friday marquee men’s doubleheader of national powers, featuring an ACC matchup between No. 8 North Carolina and Virginia, followed by a West Coast duel pitting undefeated No. 3 UC Santa Barbara against No. 12 UCLA.

North Carolina v. Virginia – Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. ET

The No. 8 Tar Heels look to rebound on Friday after a tough week that included a loss to James Madison, and a 0-0 tie with ACC rival Wake Forest. Leading the UNC offense is senior midfielder Martin Murphy with eight points on four goals. Junior Andy Craven follows up with his six points (two goals, two assists).

Senior Scott Goodwin has been the Tar Heels only keeper to see action so far this season and rightfully so. He leads the conference in goals-against average (0.32), save percentage (.882) and shutouts (4).

The 4-2-1 Cavaliers are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak, capped off by a 2-0 win on Tuesday against Drexel. The team is led by their lone senior and MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List player, Will Bates, who leads the team with 11 points (five goals, one assist).

Sophomore forward Chris Somerville and freshman Zach Carroll have seen their share of playing time this season, and they are tied for second in offense with four points apiece. Defensively, the Cavaliers rely on sophomore keeper Spencer LaCivita, who has 23 saves, a .821 save percentage and two shutouts to his credit.

No. 3 UC Santa Barbara v. No. 12 UCLA – Friday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET

The showdown between the No. 3 Gauchos and the No. 12 Bruins should be a fun one to watch, as each team enters the game in the midst of solid seasons. Additionally, the last time the teams met at Harder Stadium marked a record attendance of 15,896 and on Friday night, it will be no surprise if this record is eclipsed.

UC Santa Barbara is currently unbeaten with its 5-0-1 record, after a 6-2 win at Seattle last Sunday. The Gaucho offense is led by junior forward Achille Campion and his 11 points on five goals and one assist. He’s supported by senior midfielder Nic Ryan with seven points (three goals, one assist).

Freshman goalkeeper Austin Mansker has settled into his duties with five starts and six game appearances. He has recorded 13 saves, a 0.87 goals-against average and two shutouts.

Then there is UCLA, which hasn’t lost a game since its season opener and is currently riding a five-match unbeaten streak.

The Bruins have so far outscored their opponents 30-18. Senior midfielder Ryan Hollingshead, junior forward Reed Williams and senior forward Evan Raynr all have five points to their credit to lead the Bruins.

Freshman keeper Juan Cervantes has seen action in five games, four of which were starts. He is 3-0-1 on the season with 16 saves and two shutouts.
