A record-setting performance and an equally amazing defensive effort are highlights from the two players given the NSCAA’s weekly collegiate honor.
Sophomore midfielder Daphne Corboz of Georgetown and junior goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra of SMU have each been named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week.
Corboz posted a BIG EAST record 11 points in Georgetown’s one game last week. On Sunday in the Hoyas’ 8-0 victory at Pittsburgh, she set a school record and tied a conference mark with five goals. She also topped off the performance with an assist on teammate Kaitlin Brenn's goal.
Her five goals and 11 total points are now NCAA single-game highs this season and the Green Brook, N.J., native now leads the team and league with 33 points and 14 goals.
Ibarra had a solid performance in the Mustangs’ two wins last week, tallying 17 saves. Last Monday, the Dallas, Texas native made seven saves in a 2-1 win against South Carolina. He followed up on Saturday with a shutout and 10 saves in a road win at then-No. 23 UAB.
Ibarra has allowed only two goals in the past five games and also stopped two penalty kicks during that span. So far this season, he has six games with six or more saves and has recorded 61 total stops, which ranks him fourth nationally. He is also ninth in the NCAA with 6.1 saves per game and 14th nationally with a .859 save percentage.
The Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week is announced every Wednesday. One male and one female player is selected by a committee from nominations submitted primarily by NCAA Division I conferences.
Winners will also be recognized each week during NSCAA College Game of the Week broadcasts on FOX Soccer.
This week’s other women’s finalists include senior forward Cortlyn Bristol (William & Mary), junior forward Maya Hayes (Penn State) and sophomore midfielder Paige Strahan (Texas Tech).
Other men’s finalists include senior midfilder Carlos Alvarez (Connecticut), senior midfielder Ryan Hollingshead (UCLA), senior forward Hakan Ilhan (UNC-Greensboro), senior midfielder Austin McAnena (Ohio State) and freshman midfielder Tim Lazorko (Saint Joseph).

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
