Big 12 and Big West showdowns featured on this week’s NSCAA College Game of the Week

FOX Soccer will again broadcast the NSCAA College Game of the Week, this time featuring a Big 12 women’s game on Thursday evening, followed by a Big West men’s matchup on Friday night.
The No. 23 West Virginia women will host league foe Oklahoma for the first time in school history on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. ET. Then, on Friday, the No. 16 UC Santa Barbra men will duel with Cal Poly in one of the nation's most exciting college soccer rivalries at 11 p.m. ET (8 p.m. PT).
West Virginia v. Oklahoma – Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7p.m. ET
In their first year in the Big 12 Conference, the Mountaineers, coached by Nikki Izzo-Brown, are 9-3-4 and currently lead the Big 12 with a 5-0-1 record in conference play. The team is coming off a 1-1 tie against Baylor and is looking to stay atop the Big 12 conference.
The Mountaineers are led offensively by two star forwards, sophomore Kate Schwindel and junior Frances Silva. Schwindel, with eight goals and seven assists, leads the team in total points with 23, while Silva leads the team with ten goals and also has two assists on her record giving her 22 points coming into this game. Both players have been named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week this season.
Defensively, WVU has relied on senior defender and MAC-Hermann Watch List player Bry McCarthy and sophomore goalkeeper Sara Keane who have led the back line in holding opponents to sixteen goals on the season. Keane owns a 0.94 goals-against average and has recorded 65 saves on the year.
Oklahoma is coached by Matt Potter and enters Thursday’s game with an overall record of 6-7-4 ( 2-2-2 Big 12). The Sooners are on a two-game winning streak after beating Kansas and TCU at home, but are still searching for their first road win of the year.
The Sooners are led offensively by this week's Disney Soccer/NSCAA Player of the Week, Renae Cuellar, who has 23 points on 11 goals and one assist. She also leads the Big 12 this season with five game-winning goals.
Defensively, the Sooners are anchored by senior goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire, who has a goal against average of 1.29 and leads the Big 12 with 85 saves.
UC Santa Barbara vs. Cal Poly – Friday, Oct. 19 at 11 p.m. ET
UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly square off in a Big West rivalry match this Friday.
UC Santa Barbara, led by head coach Tim Vom Steeg, is coming off a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State on Tuesday and are 9-2-3 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
Senior midfielder Nic Ryan leads the Gauchos offensively with 15 points (7 goals and one assist). Also contributing offensively are junior forward Achille Campion with 11 points (5 goals, 1 assist) and freshmen midfielder Ema Boateng with 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists).
UC Santa Barbara has been anchored defensively by freshman goalkeeper Austin Mansker who has played in all of the Gauchos 14 games. Mansker has racked up 33 saves and has a very respectable 0.70 goals-against average.
Cal Poly will be looking to get their first win at Harder Stadium, as the team has yet to do so in its previous 14 meetings. The Mustangs will be coming into this game after a big win against UC Davis giving the Mustangs an 8-5-1 record (3-2-1 Big West) on the season.
The Mustangs and coach Paul Holocher will rely offensively on junior forward Mackenzie Pridham, who is second in scoring among conference players. Pridham has eight goals, giving him 16 points on the year. The Mustangs are also helped offensively by junior midfielder George Malki and senior midfielder Chris Gashen who both have eight points on two goals and four assists.
Defensively the Mustangs have conceded 14 goals (1.00 per game) and 59 total shots on target (4.2) through the 14 matches of 2012. The Mustangs have split time at goalkeeper with Wade Hamilton and Chase Hanser, who have a combined 45 saves and a 0.98 goals-against average.
The NSCAA College Game of the Week is in its eighth season on FOX Soccer. The broadcast features games between some of the top NCAA Division I men’s and women’s teams on Thursday and Friday nights.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
