Premier International Tours Bringing Inside Look at Ajax Style of Play to Indy

Even the most novice soccer coach, player, fan or administrator has heard of Ajax, long considered one of the premier professional soccer teams of all-time. Ajax, it can be said, has set the bar for how to practice and play the game of soccer at every age level.

And, thanks to Premier International Tours founded by former Dutch player Loek van Zijl, coaches of all levels will get an inside look at the Ajax style of play at the 2013 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis.

Holland legend Arnold Muhren, Ajax Youth Academy’s Youth Specialist, and Eddie van Schaick, a long-time respected consultant of Ajax, will conduct two sessions in Indianapolis:

  • Thursday's field session at 2:15 p.m. - "Passing and Receiving"
  • Friday's lecture session at 4 p.m. - "Style of Play Ajax: Academy U9 to First Team"

“First off, bringing Arnold and Eddie to the Convention is just another example of what we do with Premier International Tours,” van Zijl says with great fervor. “And, it’s another example of why I love my job so much. I have loved it from day one (he launched the company in 1978) and I love everything about it still today.

“We give youth, high school and even college teams the opportunity to travel the world and train with the best, including Ajax, which, indeed, could be considered the Godfather of professional soccer. Their ties to Barcelona make them, in my opinion, the model franchise. So it’s a thrill that we can bring their methods to the NSCAA Convention and then coaches and teams can bring their teams to Ajax. It’s fantastic.”

If you just spend five minutes with van Zijl you are sold on the value of what he does.

“It is important to see how people from the other side of the world look at the world’s most popular sport,” van Zijl said. “Soccer players learn to appreciate the game of soccer from a totally different perspective after an international trip. And, bringing some of our partners to the United States is a key part of the process.”

van Zijl is just getting started. His passion seeps through the phone line. It’s that passion that gives so many U.S. teams the rare opportunity to fuel their soccer-playing fire by experiencing the world’s game in another part of the world.

“I could go on forever,” van Zijl says, “but one of the best ways for people to see what we do is simply visit us at PremierInternationalTours.com.  It will be easy to see that we work with boys, girls, high school and even college teams and we send teams all over the world – Holland, South America, Germany – to name a few.

“Then, for coaches who are in Indianapolis, just seeing what Arnold Muhren, who by the way, may have recorded the greatest pass of all time when he found Marco van Basten in the 1988 European Championships with the game-winning assist against Russia, and Eddie van Schaick do, will go a long way in demonstrating the true value of training internationally.”

van Zijl makes sure to point out that the sessions with Muhren and van Schaick in Indianapolis will not include a message from Premier International Tours.

“That is not what this is about,” van Zijl says. “This is about bringing one of the most attractive and attacking styles of soccer to the NSCAA Convention. It’s about Ajax and the Ajax way.”

While it will be impossible to learn everything about the Ajax way in just two hours, it will open many eyes to the secrets of their success.  And, perhaps, it could get coaches thinking about the opportunity to train at the Ajax Academy.

“For coaches who want to learn more about ‘the Ajax way’ after watching and listening to Arnold and Eddie they will be able to do it,” van Zijl says. “Ajax conducts an international coach’s symposium in February and Ajax also has an amazing online service at AjaxOnlineAcademy.com.

“Having spent nearly a lifetime with Arnold and Eddie, I can tell you, their sessions are fantastic. I mean, let’s face it; Ajax historically is the most successful farm club or educator club in the world. You know the names, Johan Cruyff, Rinus Michels…Arnold will bring that Ajax history to the NSCAA Convention and Eddie is a great facilitator to Arnold.”

Premier International Tours delivers you a front-row seat.
