Eight begin roles on the NSCAA Board of Directors

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced eight people into new Board of Directors positions. The appointments were the result of membership vote and were presented at the NSCAA’s annual business meeting during its Convention in Indianapolis in January.

Elected to the Executive Committee were:

Amanda Vandervort – Vice President of Marketing
Charlie Slagle – Secretary

Re-elected to Board of Directors positions were:

Kevin Sims – High School Representative (Girls)
Kevin Denson – Youth Representative (Boys)
Gerry DiBartolo – College Representative (Men’s)

Additionally, Jack Huckel assumed his role as President of the Association for a one-year term, succeeding Ralph Polson who will serve as Immediate Past President for one year. Huckel also appointed two new at-large members: Jesus Medina representing the Latin American Soccer Coaches Committee, and Charlie Wright to the Finance, Budget and Audit Committee.

Jack Huckel – President

Huckel has been a member of the NSCAA for 40 years and previously served as the Board’s Vice President of Marketing. He also served 10 years as a director at the National Soccer Hall of Fame and is the founder of JR Huckel & Associates, a consultation and management services firm for Hall of Fame elections. Huckel previously coached the men’s teams at Skidmore College, Maine Maritime Academy and George Mason University. Huckel earned his NSCAA Premier Diploma in 1996.

Amanda Vandervort – Vice President of Marketing

Vandervort has been an NSCAA member for 10 years and currently serves as the Director of Social Media for Major League Soccer. She also is the FIFA Marketing and Communications Instructor. She previously served in a variety of roles on the Board and was the NSCAA Women’s Committee chair from 2007-12. Vandervort has earned her NSCAA Premier Diploma.

Charlie Slagle – Secretary

Slagle, a NSCAA member for more than 30 years, is the CEO of the Capital Area Soccer League in Raleigh, N.C. He serves several other roles with the NSCAA, including instructor for the NSCAA Director of Coaching course, Master Coach course mentor and sideline reporter for the NSCAA College Game of the Week. He is formerly the men’s soccer coach at Davidson College.

Kevin Sims – High School Representative (Girls)

Sims is a 31-year member of the Association and is the varsity girls soccer coach at Carmel Christian School in Matthews, N.C. He has served as head coach for the Westminster Catawba Christian School and a seeding committee member for the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association. His other service to the NSCAA includes the High School Assistant Coach of the Year committee member.

Kevin Denson – Youth Representative (Boys)

Denson has been a member of the NSCAA for 30 years and is currently a youth (U-7) coach and head boys coach for Colonial High School in Virginia Beach, Va. He has served as a state associate staff coach, the NSCAA High School Boys Coach of the Year committee, and is a former national chair for the Boys High School Spring Top 20 poll.

Gerry DiBartolo – College Representative (Men’s)

DiBartolo is a 30-plus year member of the NSCAA and has served in a variety of roles for the Association. He has served as the Senior College Men’s Coach of the Year chairperson and as a member of the Division III regional/national rankings committee. He is currently the head men’s coach and assistant athletic director at Salisbury University.

Jesus Medina – At-Large Representative (Latin American Soccer Coaches Committee)

Medina is chair of the NSCAA Latino American Soccer Coaches Committee, working to develop education programs and events for and raise awareness about the LASCC philosophy and purposes in Hispanic communities in the U.S. Medina is currently working for the Napa Valley Soccer Club, designing and running the youth development program.

Charlie Wright – At-Large Representative (Finance, Budget and Audit Committee)

For the past 11 years, Wright served The Kroenke Group in a number of roles, including Vice President, COO, and CFO of the MLS’s Colorado Rapids and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Mile High United Way and previously served as chairman of the National Lacrosse League Board of Governors.
