Offensive Juggernauts Sweep NSCAA High School Players of the Week Award
Laura Marcantel, a senior forward at St. Joseph’s Academy (Baton Rouge, La.) and Will Keegan, a junior midfielder at Pensacola Catholic High School (Pensacola, Fla.) have been selected as the NSCAA High School Players of the Week.
Marcantel was vital in St. Joseph’s push to finish as the top team during the regular season. The senior forward scored the winning goals in her last two matches, both in the final 10 minutes of each match. Marcantel ended the season with five game-winning goals this season.
The senior forward finished the regular season with 17 goals and three assists.
Keegan lead Pensacola Catholic High School to the District 1-2A championship with a goal and two assists in the championship game. The junior midfielder was key in the team’s 3-1 regional semifinal victory with a goal and an assist.
Keegan finished the regular season with 24 goals and four assists through 23 games.
Other female finalists include Emma Bloom from Lake Highland Preparatory School (Orlando, Fla.), Casie Ramsier from Plano West Senior High (Plano, Texas), Kacie Longo from South River High School (Edgewater, Md.) and Gloria Deveraux from Willis High School (Willis, Texas).
Other male finalists include Caleb Kramer from New Palestine High School (New Palestine, Ind.), Hunter Owens from Aledo High School (Aledo, Texas), Daniel Santa Pied from Vista Ridge High School (Ceder Park, Texas) and Jorge Guzman from Righetti High School (Santa Maria, Calif.)
The NSCAA High School Player of the Week program is designed to highlight the future stars of the game. Anyone can nominate a player, however only players whose coach is a current NSCAA member are eligible for selection. Honorees will be announced on Wednesdays.
The next submission deadline is Monday, Feb. 11, followed by the Feb. 13 announcement.
