Shooting & Finishing with Academy Staff Member Neil Hull
Posted by Neil Hull, NSCAA Academy Staff on Feb 5, 2013 in Education 0 Comments
Provided by NSCAA Academy Staff member Neil Hull, this lesson plan is designed on the technical progressive methodology.
Leading with an accuracy-based warm-up, the session incorporates as much movement as possible, focusing on warming the mind and body. As the session progresses, "incremental addition of pressure" is the main focus:
1. Building from individual performance pressure
2. The physical pressure of an opponent of the player
3. High reptition of the small-sided game, focusing on technique and success
4. Culminating in a conditioned game to final game
The overall strategic focus ultimately is to "aim small, miss small. Aim big, miss big!”
This progressive lesson plan is just one of many focused on shooting available at the Online Resource Library. There, you can also find another progressive plan posted by NSCAA DOCE Ian Barker that addresses the technical aspects of shooting and applies them to the game. Other articles or plans include:
- Shooting Technical Training posted by NSCAA Assistant DOCE Doug Williamson
- Shooting Sessions for Players of All Ages by Tony Waiters
- Passing and Shooting Exercises for ages 12-14 year olds

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
