Meet the Staff: Regis University, National and Advanced National Diploma Courses
Posted by NSCAA on Apr 5, 2012 in Education 0 Comments
Each summer the NSCAA features 6-8 college campuses where we offer our residential National, Advanced National and Premier Diploma courses. Over the next several weeks, we will take a look at the sites where you can take either the National or Advanced National Diploma and the staff who will guide you on your coaching journey.
This week we are going to take a closer look at Regis University, host to the National and Advanced National Diploma courses the week of June 4-10.
Located in Denver, Colo., Regis is an ideal location for our courses. The fields, dining hall and classrooms are a short walk from the candidate and staff housing. June weather in Denver is typically very nice. Temperatures range from lows in the 50s to highs in the 80s.
We work hard to put together a top notch staff for each of the courses we offer. The Course Directors this summer at Regis University are Peter Gooding and George Perry. Peter will be directing the National while George will serve as the Director for the Advanced National. Joining Peter as staff for the National Diploma will be Ben Freakley, Nancy Feldman, George Hageage and Marc Francis. George will be joined by Theresa Echtermeyer and Bob Gansler for the Advanced National Diploma.
Each of these coaches earned their spots on our National Staff by virtue of their outstanding ability to help other coaches become more capable teachers of the game, and each has served as more than just a Coaching Academy Staff coach.
Peter Gooding, a successful coach at Amherst College for more than 30 years, was a founder and principal architect of our Coaching Academy, and served a term as Director of Coaching Education. He is an NSCAA Past President, Honor Award winner, Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education award winner and currently serves as the Chair of the NSCAA Education Committee.
George Perry currently serves on the NSCAA Executive Committee as the Vice President for Education. George will assume the role of NSCAA President in January 2014. When not dealing with NSCAA “stuff”, George is the Head Men’s Coach at Monmouth College in Illinois.
Nancy Feldman is the Head Women’s Coach at Boston University, where she has led the Terriers to ten NCAA tournament appearances and nine America East Conference championships. Additionally, Nancy serves as the Chair of the Education Subcommittee for Convention Education Programming.
George Hageage is the NSCAA Regional Director for Region 12. His states are Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. George is also the Head Women’s Coach at Eastern Washington University.
Ben Freakley served as an NSCAA State Director in Virginia and now lives in Southern Georgia. Coach Freakley serves as the Assistant Men’s Coach at Southern Georgia University.
Marc Francis is currently the NSCAA State Director in Colorado. Marc should be very comfortable at Regis as he both studied and played at Regis University. Outside of his NSCAA duties, Marc is the Director of Coaching for the Colorado Edge.
The Regis venue is blessed with two exceptional female instructors for the week, as Theresa Echtermeyer brings a wealth of experience to this course. Theresa is currently both the Boys and Girls Head Coach at Mt. Vista High School and the Director of Coaching for Highlands Ranch Soccer Association and Colorado United Soccer Club.
Bob Gansler became a member of the NSCAA Hall of Fame in January 2011, in addition to his many other honors. Currently a retired coach, Bob has served as the Head Coach of the US Men’s National Team and the Kansas City Wizards and Toronto FC, both MLS teams. Bob is widely regarded as one of the finest clinicians in the history of American soccer, and his wisdom and insight have been deeply appreciated by scores of participants in our Coaching Academy.
As is always the case at our Coaching Academy, the NSCAA National Staff Coaches listed here are scheduled to teach at this venue. This list is subject to change. The course Director will assign, on site and at random, all course registrants to a squad to be led and evaluated by one of the Staff Coaches listed here.
We are excited to get our summer courses under way. If the Regis University dates or location don’t work for you, please visit us at http://www.nscaa.com/education/courses for a full list of coaching course opportunities.

I wish someone uploaded a legible copy of the Bob Gansler & Tony DiCiccio presentations at The Orlando event. I was there, it was awesome, and now I can't read my diagram/notes as to how the ball/players move!
