MINUTES
NSCAA ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
January 14, 2005 – Baltimore, Maryland

Joe Cummings called the meeting to order at 2 pm.

MOTION: To approve the minutes of the January 2004 NSCAA Business Meeting. MOTION PASSED

President’s Report – Joe Cummings
Diversity Training was launched for the National Office Staff, Academy Staff and Board of Directors in 2004 as one of our action steps from strategic planning.

Introduced a “Multiply the Membership” initiative for new members and Board approved a complimentary membership for all coaches completing the NSCAA Regional Diploma beginning in 2005.

The implementation of new governance structure was completed and we put a higher focus on our Mission and Vision statements as well as our core values.

We have new partnerships with youth state/clubs associations and have developed three new educational DVD’s.

Thanks to Janet Rayfield, Immediate Past President, for her service as she rotates off the Board. Welcome to Schellas Hyndman as the incoming president.

First Vice-President – Schellas Hyndman
Presented a list of activities for 2004 with special emphasis on the continued development of our educational programs. Traveled to Japan and Portugal and presented reports to the membership and academy staff.

Second Vice-President – Louise Waxler
Attended the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma course in June at Amherst. Attended all convention planning meetings as liaison to the Convention Committee in 2004.

Third Vice-President – Steve Malone
Attended convention committee meetings in February, August and December. Worked with Jeff Farnsworth in his continuing effort to re-structure the Awards program. Attended the National Soccer Hall of Fame inductions in Oneonta, N.Y., in August. Worked with Chris Wyche on several marketing agreements and initiatives. Worked with Geoff VanDeusen to set up local organizing committee for the Baltimore Convention. Worked with Pete Caringi, LOC Chairman, in the selection of the committee. Attended winter academy in Fort Lauderdale in January 2005.

Secretary – Al Albert
Did site inspection for May international premier course while on business in Brazil. Prepared reports for all executive committee and board sessions and kept minutes of those meetings.

Past President – Janet Rayfield
Formalized the new election process and established an official NSCAA election procedures document to outline those practices. Approved by the Board in June 2004.

Executive Director – Jim Sheldon (presented by Steve Veal)
The new annual billing cycle has caused an artificial dip in membership. We should experience significant growth in 2005.

The national office now has a 12-person staff that should grow to 13 in 2005.

The NSCAA website continues record record numbers in terms of visitors. It continues to improve. Distance learning was launched in 2004.

A record surplus of $144,000 was recorded in the 2003-04 fiscal year on a budget of $3.3 million.

A number of new partnerships were added in 2004, in addition to the retention and strengthening of existing agreements.

Attendance at residential academies in 2004 continued to rise and the non-residential courses continue to mushroom.

Attendance at the Charlotte Convention was 5,693 and all indications are that this Baltimore event will have record-setting numbers by week’s end.

MOTION: To adjourn the meeting. MOTION PASSED

Meeting adjourned at 2:25 pm.
