NSCAA Honor Award
Roy Gordon Presented NSCAA's 67th Honor Award
Roy Gordon, the men’s soccer coach at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., has been selected as the 67th recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Honor Award. He was presented the award Friday evening, Jan. 16, at the Association’s annual Awards Banquet, held in conjunction with the 2009 NSCAA Convention in St. Louis, Mo.

Gordon established the Mary Washington men’s program in 1977, compiling a record of 364-196-45 in 32 seasons. Prior to Mary Washington, he introduced soccer at the University of Maine-Farmington, which established the foundation of his 410-246-49 career record. In 2007, he became only the eighth coach in NCAA Division III history to reach the 400-win plateau. He has lead his Eagles team to the NCAA Tournament nine times since 1985, winning eight Capital Athletic Conference championships during that span. He is a five-time NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year and a six-time CAC Coach of the Year.

In addition to his on-field success, Gordon has made his presence known on the national scene. The NSCAA’s convention programs chairman for six years before being elected to its executive committee, Gordon served as the Association’s 50th president in 1999. He continues to work for the NSCAA as its Assistant Convention Manager. A past president of the Virginia Intercollegiate Soccer Association, he also served as the CAC men’s soccer chairman from the league’s inception in 1991 until 2000. He also has served on the NSCAA’s regional and national rankings committees.
