Nicholas Colaluca (Providence, R.I.) and Kia McNeill (Avon, Conn.), both four-time NSCAA/adidas All-Americas, have been named the NSCAA/adidas High School National Players of the Year.
As the National Players of the Year, they are automatic selections to participate in the Third Annual McDonald's All American High School Soccer Games, which are scheduled to be played at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., the weekend of June 12, 2004.
High School Boys – Nicholas Colaluca, LaSalle Academy, Providence, R.I.
A senior midfielder, Colaluca led LaSalle to a perfect 23-0 record in the fall, helping the Rams capture their four consecutive state championship and a final ranking of No. 5 in the NSCAA/adidas national poll. Team captain the past two seasons, he is a two-time Rhode Island State Player of the Year. He spent the spring of 2002 in Bradenton, Fla., at the IMG Academy as a member of U.S. Soccer’s Residency Program. He has been in the U.S. National Team Pool for five years and has played in international tournaments in Italy and Mexico. A two-time NSCAA/adidas All-America at the high school and youth levels, he has played club soccer for Bayside United, the Rhode Island Stingrays and Philadelphia’s FC Delco.
High School Girls – Kia McNeill, Avon (Conn.) HS
A senior forward, McNeill was a four-year starter at Avon High School, she is the school’s all-time scoring leader with 93goals and 24 assists in 80 games. An honor student, she scored goal goals in Avon’s 2-1 state championship victory, earning tournament finals MVP honors. A two-time NSCAA/adidas All-America at both the high school and youth levels, the Hartford Courant named her “Best of the Best” in girls soccer the last two years. In club play, she has helped her teams to several state titles. She is a member of the U.S. Women’s U-19 National Team Pool.
The two will be honored at the All-America Luncheon, to be held on Jan. 17, 2004, at the NSCAA Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
