NSCAA/adidas Youth All-America Teams Announced
New U-15 team includes Maryland sensation Freddy Adu

Nicole Krzysik.

Back Row: Eric Blythe, Phillip Calderon, Matt Smith, Patrick Phelan,
Lucas Rodriguez, Juan Guzman.

Repeat appearances, double-dippers and a familiar new name highlight the 2002 NSCAA/adidas Youth All-America teams. Two boys made their third consecutive team, seven players earned both Youth and High School All-America designation, and young phenomenon Freddy Adu of Potomac, Md., earned his first NSCAA award.

Adu is the soccer sensation from Maryland who already has attracted the interest of European clubs such as Inter-Milan. Although Adu has earned a starting role on the U.S. U-17 National Team, he won't turn 14 until next March 2003, so he is a member of the NSCAA's new U-15 Youth team as the number of teams honored as expanded by one age group for both the boys and girls.

A pair of U-17 boys earned their third spot on the NSCAA/adidas All-America Team: Nathan Norman from Rochester, Mich., and Ryan Solle from Broadway, N.C.

Four girls and two boys earned recognition on both the Youth and High School All-America teams this year. Double-dipping on the girls' team were U-17's Zoe Bouchelle of Cockeysville, Md.; Shannon Foley of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; Ashlyn Harris of Satellite Beach, Fla.; and Heather O'Reilly of East Brunswick, N.J., a member of the U.S. Women's National Team. On the boys side were U-17 Patrick Phelan of Windsor, Conn., and U-16 Nicholas Colaluca of Providence, R.I.

The players will be invited to take part in the NSCAA/adidas All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, as part of the 2003 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo. The players who have completed their high school eligibility also will be part of the selection pool for the McDonald's All American High School Soccer Games, presented by Powerade. The games will be held this summer in Charleston, S.C., where they were launched last June.

The NSCAA/adidas Youth All-America teams for boys and girls in the U-17, U-16 and U-15 age groups follow.
