Three Penn State players, including 2001 Hermann Trophy winner Christie Welsh, highlight the 2002 NSCAA/adidas Women's Collegiate Scholar All-America Team.

Welsh adds the distinction of being a Scholar All-America to a list of accomplishments that includes being a four-time NSCAA/adidas All-America and winning the Missouri Athletic Club's Player of the Year award and the Hermann Trophy in 2001. She is joined on the Scholar All-America team by Penn State teammates Joanna Lohman, a junior midfielder, and junior forward Heidi Drummond. Lohman is a first-team selection, while Drummond made the second team.

The top grade point average on the team belonged to Maren Harper, a senior defender from the University of Utah who posted a 4.0 GPA in political science. She was followed closely by Katheryn Foley of Connecticut, who holds a 3.97 GPA in pharmacy.
