2002 NSCAA/adidas High School State Players of the Year
Three schools sweep their state's honors; five players repeat
Three schools have claimed both of their states' Player of the Year honors with the announcement of the 2002 NSCAA/adidas High School State Players of the Year. Taking both the boys' and girls' awards were Harrison (Ark.) High School, Norman (Okla.) High School and La Salle Academy in Providence, R.I.

Five players received the honor for the second consecutive year, including junior midfielder Jessalyn Halsted, one of two players selected from Harrison High School in Harrison, Ark. Another junior midfielder, Molly Kruger, also was a repeat selection as she helped her Carmel (Ind.) High School team to an undefeated season and the No. 1 ranking in the final NSCAA/adidas national poll.

Three boys were repeat selections: Brian Yi, a senior midfielder from the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md.; Derick Radcliffe, a senior midfielder from Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tenn., which claimed the No. 1 spot in the NSCAA/adidas spring boys poll with a 25-0-0 mark; and Zachary Riffett, a senior goalkeeper from Brenham (Texas) High School. Riffett is a three-time NSCAA/adidas All-America.

The players will be invited to take part in the NSCAA/adidas All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, as part of the 2003 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo. The players who have completed their high school eligibility also will be part of the selection pool for the McDonald's All American High School Soccer Games, presented by Powerade. The games will be held this summer in Charleston, S.C., where they were launched last June.
