Contributors to Soccer Recognized

The NSCAA recognized outstanding achievement in and service to the sport with the presentation of Letters of Commendation and Certificates of Appreciation at its annual Awards Banquet on Fri., Jan. 18 in Baltimore, Md. 

Letters of Commendation
Bob Bradley, U.S. Men's National Team

Named the 33rd coch of the U.S. Men's National Team in December 2006, Bradley became the first U.S. coach to win his first three games at the helm. His team fashioned an impressive 12-5-1 record last season, along the way winning the 2007 Gold Cup and earning the U.S. a berth in the 2009 Confederations Cup.

  

Joe Borrosh, Pittsford-Mendon High School (N.Y.)

Retired after 44 years of coaching at Pittsford-Mendon High School, Borrosh has been a valuable contributor in more than four decades as an NSCAA member. He has been a regional chair in the All-America program, chaired the High School Ethics Committee, compiled and edited the national high school records that appear on NSCAA.com. He also has chaired the Robert W. Robinson Award committee, overseeing the selection of the high school long-term service award.

Michael Lewis 

Lewis has been an influential member of the soccer print media and a friend of the NSCAA for many years. He has been around the globe writing for such outlets as the New York Daily News, CNN/SI and BigAppleSoccer.com. His excellence in soccer coverage has been recognized with seven awards in the NSCAA Writing Contest, including one in 1995, the first year of the award.

Certificates of Appreciation
New York Cosmos

In 1977, the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League carried soccer to unprecedented heights in the United States. Boasting a lineup of international superstars and playing to audiences of more than 70,000, the Cosmos won consecutive NASL titles while thrusting soccer into the American conciousness. The

NSCAA is proud to recognize five members of the Cosmos from that era and thank them for their contributions to the sport: Ronnie Atanasio, Boris Bandov, Santiago Formoso, Werner Roth and Bobby Smith.

Pete Caringi, UMBC

Caringi has served as the chairman of the local organizing committee for the last four NSCAA Conventions held in Baltimore. The men's coach at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, his ties to the area's soccer community have helped make every Baltimore Convention a memorable experience.

 

Tim Flannery, NFHS
Flannery contributed to the growth of interscholastic soccer as the sport's administrator at the National Federation of High School State Associations. He recently has accepted new duties in developing  NFHS inline coching certification program, where he is a working with the NSCAA to create the soccer-specific aspect.

Jill McCartney, NSCAA

McCartney has served as a member of the NSCAA Convention Committee for many years, helping organize the annual Awards Banquet and All-America Luncheon in addition to coaching at Southwest Minnesota State University. She is working her final Convention as she moves into a new career in athletic administration.

Meridy Glenn, University of Cincinnati

Glenn has served the NSCAA for a number of years as a member of the women's Division I All-America Committee, including the past season as the Division I women's national chair. Her efforts help the NSCAA launch its new online selection process.

2007 Women's World Cup Team

Boasting a new generation of American soccer stars, the Women's National Team kept the United States among the top countries in the world. With its third-place finish at the 2007 Women's World Cup in China, the United States extended its run as the only national to reach at least the semifinal round at every Women's World Cup.
